In 2012, Mohamad Shams launched a new restaurant chain – Om Hassan, which offered authentic Egyptian food in a relaxed ambience. Mohamad was one of the first in the restaurant sector to realise the importance of a central kitchen serving the restaurant chain, thus ensuring consistent quality and attaining economies of scale.
Om Hassan hits 2015 with a chain of 4 restaurants. According to Mohamad, “the operation has a strong social and economic impact since each branch employs a large number of low-skilled Egyptians of bottom the pyramid. Furthermore, the services are all sourced from local suppliers.”
GroFin’s support was to grow Om Hassan’s chain by opening a fifth branch in a prime location which created and sustained 150 new jobs. However, the support went beyond money as GroFin assisted Mohamad in the formalization of the company’s operations through improving accounting policies and procedures. GroFin also helped Om Hassan to comply with international standards for obtaining the HACCP certification.
“We are confident that GroFin’s support will provide the platform to Om Hassan to grow even bigger to become a major player in the Egyptian market in the future,” concluded Mohamad.
