In October, Walter Ogwal, the current head of GroFin operations in Uganda will assume the role of GroFin East Africa Regional Investment Director. For five years the former senior banker was responsible for the overall country business and operational objectives. With a passion for growth finance, his track record in assisting entrepreneurs of small and growing businesses to navigate the myriad of challenges speaks for itself. His professional management and leadership style make him the perfect candidate to fulfill this senior role and GroFin looks forward to his continued success in creating sustainable positive socioeconomic impact throughout the region.
Prior to joining GroFin, Ogwal worked with two major international commercial banks rising to the position of Value Center General Manager at Standard Chartered Bank. In theses positions he worked with both regional and international centers of excellence. He has extensive experience in corporate and small- and medium-sized enterprise finance, foreign exchange, and global market operations. Ogwal’s banking career is highlighted with major turnaround undertakings and ground breaking innovations.
To this day, Ogwal remains a passionate growth finance professional. His tenure at GroFin saw significantly increased development of the GroFin East Africa Fund (Uganda) portfolio and his team continues to deliver profound results. It was not long before GroFin’s leadership recognized his performance excellence and appointment him to GroFin Investment Committee.
Ogwal is a board member of GroFin Uganda and the Private Sector Foundation of Uganda (PSFU). He holds an MBA (finance elective) and CIMA Dip MA. The proud father is married to Carolyn and together they relish the love of their four children. A keen reader and philanthropist, he also enjoys gardening, jogging, badminton, and a nostalgic appreciation of motor sport.
